Is Ragwort only poisonous to horses?
A lot of people have already answered this question with mammals, but it is also poisonous to herbivorous reptiles such as tortoises and iguanas. If tortoises (e.g. Mediterranean spp, giant tortoises) are kept outside in the summer, care should be taken to ensure no ragwort is growing in the area.
Ragwort poisoning has also been reported in cattle. Differences in grazing habits may be important to the susceptibility of different species to ragwort poisoning, rather than an inherent resistance to the hepatotoxin it contains. Ragwort tends to be more dangerous when in the dry form. Avoid its inclusion in hay and make sure that it is completely removed from pasture, not just pulled up and left lying. This makes poisoning more likely, not less.
