Is purchasing gold & silver a socially-responsible investment? Is buying gold triggering more irresponsible mining?
A. The fiat money system has destroyed more lives and done more environmental damage than gold and silver have done since the beginning of time. Yes, there are problems with gold mining, environmentally speaking, but gold mining is no more damaging to the environment than any other kind of mining. There are environmental regulations that must be followed by gold mining operations to minimize their impact. Fiat currency is the primary financial cause of environmental damage in the world. It has empowered a small handful of people to behave in extremely irresponsible ways for centuries without accountability. That group of people is using silver and gold to centralize control of the financial system, and the most socially-responsible investment you can make is to decentralize the ownership and control of silver and gold. For further thoughts on this, see Catherine Austin Fitts’ letter to Michael Maser, a retired mining engineer.
