Is punk only true if it’s destructive like the Sex Pistols?
No, not at all. Many teenagers are still stupid, but they learn over the years. And if you’re accompanied by bands like The Adolescents or The Germs when you’re 14 to 18 who drum some intelligent views into you, that should have more of an effect than most other education methods. Are there even any cool young punk acts? I like Against Me!. Anti-Flag used to be too determined at first, but people like them are important for the scene. Aside from them, I don’t really listen to young bands. We all turn 40 this year. And even if we don’t feel like it, we’re pretty old. But you too once started with a badly played E major chord… Of course. When I was twelve I was really into The Beatles and took acoustic guitar lessons from a friend of my mom’s, but I didn’t care for the practicing, that’s why I stopped. I found interest again when I bought my first Circle Jerks LP and wanted to start my own band. Punk rock was cool because you could easily play that stuff at home. I never practiced back
