Is prostitution legal in the Scandinavian countries?
Scandinaivia is considered to be: Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Belgium isn’t really “Scandanavia” but some consider it to be, and since it is the “hotbed” of prostitution in Europe, I include it here. Finland: There is no law prohibiting prostitution in Finland. Norway: Prostitution is only an illegal crime when pimps organize it in Norway. Sweden: Since 1999 purchasing sex has been a criminal offense in Sweden; providing sexual services isn’t. Denmark: There is no law prohibiting prostitution in Denmark. Belgium: There are 28,000 prostitutes in Belgium, about half come from abroad, mainly Eastern Europe. Prostitution is legal in Belgium–although trafficking in sex slaves is not. Nations don’t arbitrarily pass laws. The elected officials must determine whether one is needed or not.
