The answer is yes and no. Yes are for prostitutes from registered brothels and no for these ladies who ply their trade along the road and streets within the red light districts. Prostitutes from registered brothels are required to seek periodical medical check-up for sexually transmitted disease and had to adhered to the authority guide line when performing their services. So it would be fairly safe if you visit these ladies at a registered brothels. Those indepentent operating prostitues were not screened by the health authority and could probably have the disease before coming to Singapore. That is why the police (anti-vice unit) often carried out raids within the red light districts and bars.
