Is property on Sharm El-Sheikh only available on a leasehold basis?
Yes, since Sharm is on the Sinai peninsula, property in the countrys most popular Red Sea region can be purchased only on a long-term leasehold. There is evidence to suggest that the Government of Egypt intends to standardise title to land/property across the country. There is no undue cause for alarm: as Egypts most important tourist destination, any changes to Sharms land ownership laws is likely to be extremely carefully managed.
