Is prolonging life beneficial?

It depends on the individual. Why would you prolong the life of a person in a chronic vegetative state with no hope of recovery? Why would you want to prolong the life of a person with advanced Alzheimers, or with incurable cancer? On the other hand, people in their late seventies in otherwise good health get bypass surgery or dialysis and kidney transplants. This latter form of life prolongation is quite acceptable to most of us. But let’s face it, we aren’t going to live forever. If cryonics ever works, and that takes a huge leap of faith, it will only be temporary. Like Faust, you could sell your soul to the Devil, but in the end he got a bad bargain, too.
