Is price a good indicator of quality and performance?
Unequivocally NO. There are plenty of well-made, reliable, reasonably accurate and safe firearms that are inexpensive. Most of them are used, either military surplus or law-enforcement trade-ins. There is nothing wrong with purchasing a used firearm provided it’s been verified to be safe. Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk Custom, Vickers Tactical, etc. are all awesome guns (with awesome price tags). They tend to cost two to four times as much as other 1911s. Sure the low-end 1911 pistols may lack the fit, finish, and refinement but they work. The 1911 design is proven. One has to ask oneself, are these guns two to four times BETTER than the others. What does BETTER mean? If the subjective answer is yes, then go buy the more expensive ones. It’s like buying a high performance sports car and a commuter car. Both will get you there. One gets you the attention, has the style, the snob factor, better ride, etc. The other doesn’t but still gets you there. The high-end ones are better made.
