Presidents Day is a Federal Holiday. Individual companies may or may not recognize the day as one of their paid holidays. Generally, on Federal Holidays all governmental offices (Federal, State, County and local) are officially closed even though some departments within those offices may be open (i.e. police, fire, emergency services,etc.). On the local level those closures usually affect mail delivery and garbage pickup, to name two. Schools are normally closed on Federal Holidays, but not always. Most banks honor every Federal Holiday but some banks of late have opted to keep some branch operations open (i.e. those found in grocery stores, etc.) I once worked for a company that gave its employees a choice of being off on either Presidents Day or Good Friday.
