No. Your comparison is slightly off. The candidate in the Manchurian Candidate was a Joe McCarthy type, a strong anti-Commie who was running for VP. The point was to assassinate the candidate for Pres thus allowing the VP candidate to become the Pres candidate. No one would have suspected the virulent anti-Commie guy of actually being a Commie. Whereas plenty of people have pointed out that Obama was a liberal while he was running for office, it wasn’t some secret plot or surprise.
