Is premises identification voluntary?
Pennsylvania’s Premises Identification Program is a voluntary program. There is no state law in Pennsylvania requiring farmers to register their premises. In order to streamline operations, the Department has implemented a policy that farms participating in animal health programs will be assigned a premises identification number. Livestock producers have the opportunity, through either written application or by participating in an animal health program, to participate in the premises identification effort. To date, more than 30,000 producers have elected to participate in the program.
