On a Macro level, poverty is a cultural problem that was inherited from the Spaniards. The Barrio system was a way to marginalized the underdogs and up the “alta sociedad.” I wrote my thesis on this issue and the whole issue was on countries trying to be part of the developed world. A country like Philippines must take care of its poor before it becomes an economic power. But, it is not possible because the current system will have to be wiped out and generations will have to be educated in a way that children will think more like being part of the developed world. On a Micro Level, generations have been conditioned to the way that America made the Philippines–go abroad and make money. This cycle of life will never end. Most people think of the Philippines as just the container that has raised them and that success means just going abroad.
