Is Port Alberni Canada’s Ultimate Fishing Town?
By Westcoaster.ca Staff PORT ALBERNI — Port Alberni is in the race to be named Canada’s Ultimate Fishing Town. World Fishing Network, a TV show and internet fishing site, has ranked the Vancouver Island town second in an online voting competition, which is offering $25,000 as its top prize. As of Monday just after noon, 11,707 people had voted for Port Alberni. Dauphin, Man. was in first place with 12,650. Other Island communities trailed far behind Port Alberni. Campbell River received 1,144 votes, Courtenay received 81 votes, Ucluelet had 16 votes, Victoria had seven votes and Nanaimo had six votes. Lake Cowichan had 0 votes. Tofino wasn’t even mentioned in the top 50. The top prize is a $25,000 community donation, which must be used on fishing-related programs that benefit anglers. The winner will also receive an half-hour show on WFN and a trophy. Nine days are left in the competition.
