Is playing and improvising jazz easy to accomplish?
Your question has been asked many times, in many variations here on Yahoo! You have some good answers, but I have to differ with some of them! Though I have been a professional jazz musician for forty years, I have never been “especially trained in improvisational jazz”. I did get some good instruction on basic music theory and some of the jazz chords. This is true about many things, but playing jazz and learning jazz is the same thing, You learn it by doing it! It always helps to have good teachers, but playing with helpful and patient musicians will give you a great start. I have gone back and learned as much as I can about what I am doing and answering questions on Yahoo is part of the process. It helps to focus my thoughts on different aspects of jazz.
