Is Platos Republic ideologically repugnant?
His republic just goes to show the different forms society can take, Yes his advocacy of dictatorship would seem to some repugnant. He was quite biased of course, beibng a philosopher he believed philosophers should be king, we see the same today, Economists think they should be in charge (gordon brown) and Oil Barons (GW Bush) think they should be in charge. All this is a far cry from democracy – the society fit for gods, if we had real democracy it would have been taken away from us a long time ago, all we have is an illusion that we call democracy, it is not real democracy.
