Is phlebectomy covered by my insurance?
Insurance companies do not pay for phlebectomy if it is done for cosmetic reasons. However, most insurance companies will pay for phlebectomy if criteria for medical necessity is met. The criteria for medical necessity varies from insurance company to insurance company, but normally, this criteria for medical necessity requires that the patient have significant pain or discomfort which disrupts normal day to day activity. Most insurance carriers require a trial of support or compression stockings and the need to take pain medication during the last six months. The Vein Care Center will work with you and your insurance carrier through the predetermination process to determine medical necessity.
