Is philosophy taught as a subject in Secondary Schools in the UK?

Usually it is part of Religious Studies. The A Level in RS is now often called “Philosophy and Ethics”, taken as an option subject by 16-18 year olds. Beyond that, a few enlightened schools teach Philosophy as a general subject to 11-16 year olds. I would guess that most of those which do are independent schools. Increasingly Philosophy and Critical Thinking is being seen in such schools as a good subject to stretch gifted and talented students and to develop their reasoning skills.
