Is pet food safe anymore?

In my opinion, a lot of pet food was never safe to begin with. Yes, they were not contaminated with poisons, but the nutrition content is/was crap. If you look at the brands, with the exception of Natural Balance, all of the ones that have been recalled are not nutritionally balanced for a cat. They contained ingredients that a cat should not ever be eating. In no way shape or form am I happy that all these cats are sick and dying. I feel terrible for them and their owners. My 18 year old cat died of chronic renal failure last year, not related to tainted food (which is causing acute renal failure). I know exactly what it’s like to deal with a kitty with kidney’s shutting down. It’s a horrible experience. But if one good thing can come of this whole mess, it’s that people are becoming more aware of what exactly is in cat food and, more importantly, what a cats unique nutritional needs are.

I’ve been selling a healthy pet food for three years now after putting my own dogs on it. Great results. And we have cat food too. Do your homework, there are a few out there that can be trusted but also remember that nothing in life is 100% sure and that more often than not you get what you pay for. Although I don’t believe you have to pay the outrageous prices some companies charge either. Healthy pet food is also made cheaper by the fact that the animals need less of it to get what they need and that a healthy animal will cost you less in vet bills. I trust small companies more. When you’re small it’s easier to keep track of things. Also when you’re trying to make a living instead of mammoth profits, you don’t cut corners. The problem with those companies is that you have to go out and look for them since they don’t have the ad budget of the big ones.

Pet food is not safe, and never has been. The recent recalls are because those foods are causing acute illness, but all commercial pet foods lead to chronic illness.

God, this is the ost exasperating and scary thing for me right now. The recall has created so much stress for me, and money spent. Originally before this fiasco began I was feeding my cat Nutro Max canned food, a company who’s name was on the recall list. The exact product I was using was not mentioned, but after some searching I found it was “suspected.” I immediately took my cat off of it and took him to the vet for tests. $300 later, I found he is in perfect health; no problem. Then I buy him Natural Balance and yesterday some flavor of Natural Balance was recalled, so I got my cat off of that. Last night, after extensive research online, I decided to go to the raw/frozen food path. This morning, before I had fed my cat the new food, I found she had poo’d on the floor…?!???? I cannot understand why this happened before the change came around. Anyway I cleaned that up and I put the food down for my cat and she refused to eat it. I then squished some treats into it and she ate some
