Is peru a third world country?
As most labels it all comes down to how one defines ‘Third World.’ Is there widespread poverty? Yes. However, Peru’s economy is one of the strongest in the America’s, has a booming tourist industry with the rich culture, world reknown landmarks (i.e. Macchu Picchu, Nazca Lines, Ballestas Islands, etc.), and the many different ecozones (the most of any other country in the world). With poverty often comes crime and a more visible homeless population. However during my tenure in Peru I felt safe and optimistic about the progress being made in Peru. Lima is very cosmopolitan offering clubs, shopping malls, beaches, shopping districts, etc. The experience will be different of what you would find in Tokyo, New York, or London but it is well worth it.
