To adjust the microphone level in Windows Vista, right-click on the speaker by the system tray and select Recording Devices. Alternatively, press the Start button, type “mmsys.cpl” in the search box, then select the Recording tab. Next, select your microphone from the devices listed. Select Properties and adjust the level as needed. If the levels are too low, go to the Custom tab and select “Mic Boost” , then readjust the levels.
