Is payment of Zakat in paper money acceptable?
I’ve been reading about Zakat and see some people say that paying Zakat in paper money is unacceptable because paper money represents debt; which, in turn, represents usury. They also contend that paper money is “fiat money” which has no intrinsic value at all. These people say the only correct payment would be in gold and silver. Is that an “extremist” view, a “literalist” view, or a correct view? Thanks in advance for your answer. — John C.
