No, however it is strongly encouraged. A variety of New Student Days activities will relate to the Summer Reading Program selection, and you will also have the opportunity to choose to participate in an Alternative Spring Break program related to the book.

Yes, all freshmen are expected to read Mountains Beyond Mountains and attend both the Academic Convocation on August 19 at 9:00 a.m. and the discussion sections with faculty that follow.
