is Park Slope, Brooklyn, NYC a safe neighborhood?
There are plenty of people out and about during the day so Park Slope tends to be pretty safe and the neighborhood has been gentrified to the point of being boring and generic and full of yuppies. Affluence tends to reduce crime. I have read anecdotal evidence of an uptick in crime in the area although the police statistics seem to indicate crime was down in 2005 to 2006. There have been reports of “roving teens” in Prospect Park after dark and like Central Park there is an area in the park known for gay men cruising. There was a daylight iPod robbery of a woman with her baby in a stroller last year that got a lot of attention. Some guy got robbed taking out the trash late one night. Not to be glib but these things apparently DO happen. As for after dark, one of Park Slope’s problems is that it is in Brooklyn and geographically that lends itself to more crime. There are more poor neighborhoods elsewhere in the borough and those neighborhoods tend to have more crime. Manhattan has prett
