Is P3P compliant with the European Data Protection Directive?
It is not yet clear how the European Data Protection Directive (or P3P for that matter) will be implemented, and we are not in the position to make such an assessment. However, W3C is working with numerous data commissioners and the so-called Article 29 Working Party to get European feedback about P3P. Use of P3P by itself would not constitute compliance with the Data Protection Directive, but P3P can be an important part of an overall compliance strategy. Merely using P3P does not excuse a service from any legal obligations it may have. It could be used in any jurisdiction if it is used in a way that complies with the laws of that jurisdiction.
