Is P2P file sharing always unlawful?
A. P2P file sharing is not, itself, unlawful. It is a matter of what files are shared and how those files are shared using P2P networks that determines what may or may not be lawful. There are many legitimate and lawful uses of P2P networks. However, many users of P2P technologies copy and distribute popular songs, movies and other digital media. Much of these materials are protected by copyright laws and many P2P users trade these materials without the authorization of the copyright holder. This is illegal and unethical.
