Is oscilloscope connected in parralel or series in a circuit?

Usually an oscilloscope is put in parallel with the circuit that you’re measuring. It has a very high input impedence so that only a tiny amount of current flows through it, so that it doesn’t have a significant effect upon the circuit that you’re measuring. I should imagine though that if the capacities/voltages that you’re working with are extremely small then there may be some interference due to the capacity of the leads and because it has to allow some current flow (tiny amount) or it wouldn’t be able to measure it. The only thing that I can think about where you put the instrument in series is an ammeter measuring current flow. An oscilloscope primarily measures voltage, not current.
