Is Orville Redenbacher (popcorn man) still living?
Although Orville Redenbacher’s famous gourmet popcorn is still marketed quite successfully by Con-Agra Foods, the corn king has expired. The Indiana native, born in July 1907, actually died in September 1995. Despite many urban myths and internet rumors, Redenbacher drowned in his home hot tub (near San Diego, California) after suffering from a heart attack. He was nearly 88 years old. Apparently, his remains were cremated, and his ashes were spread over the Pacific Ocean. . . . Perhaps this is one more reason why hot-air popping is considerably healthier than steaming. . . . who knows?
