No – the Order of St Michael & St George is an order of chivalry within the British honours system, awarded by the Sovereign on the advice of the government. It’s usually awarded for foreign & diplomatic services in three class – Knight Grand Cross, Knight Commander and Commander, the first 2 entitle the recipient to be called ‘Sir’ (or ‘Dame’ if a lady). It was instituted in 1818 and is still awarded today.
