Is Ontario Electronic Stewardship causing a negative impact on the businesses of some reusers?
Under the WEEE Program, reuse and refurbishment will be promoted as the first option under the 3Rs hierarchy (reduce, reuse, recycle) to deal with unwanted WEEE materials. Reuse will be an integral part of the promotion and education campaign that will reach out to all consumers and generators of WEEE. The WEEE Program will allow reuse organizations to operate as they do currently, and provide additional benefits including free promotion, advertising and awareness, higher collection volumes, and relief from transportation and end-of-life processing costs. These benefits are outlined in Section 7.4, Table 7.9 of the WEEE Program Plan.
