Is Online Casino Gambling in the U.S. Illegal?
The UIGEA made it more difficult for gamblers to enjoy online casino services, but it did not stop all of them. Some found other ways to fund their cash reserves so they could continue matching their skills against opponents all over the world. Doing so might not even be against the law. The UIGEA does not clearly forbid U.S. citizens from playing real money games online. It just makes it illegal for their banks and credit card companies to transfer money into gambling accounts or pay debts to online gaming sites. Many casinos also contended that the UIGEA is not legal because it unfairly makes it difficult for people to use online gaming sites but does not put the same burden on sites that encourage betting on sports or horseracing. There are still numerous lawsuits making their way through the U.S. court system. If the UIGEA is not legal, then it cannot have any effect on how players and the gaming industry operate in the U.S.
