Is nuclear fusion just a theory? Why do nuclear power stations have natural gas feeds?

Nuclear fusion has been about since the start of the universe! Stars fuse hydrogen into helium etc, in their cores. The planet we live on would not support life if the sun was not ‘shining’ its fusion derived energy upon us. During the nineteen fifties the two super powers, the US and USSR, developed fusion bombs that used a primary fission device to detonate a secondary, lithium six/deuterium, fuel chamber into a catastrophic fusion reaction. These bombs could/can deliver up to about 60 mega tons of TNT destructive power but typically yield about 2 mega tons. The reaction within the bombs is notated: – 2H1 + 3H1 → 4He2 ( 3.5 MeV ) + n0 ( 14.1 MeV ) or 6Li3 + 2H1 → 2 4He2 + 22.4 MeV For the past few decades, researchers have been attempting to create fusion reactors but so far their efforts have met with limited success! As for the second part of your question. I assume that some nuclear power stations use natural gas as a cheaper energy solution rather than ‘tapping’ the electricity g
