Is Nuclear Energy Really a Viable Alternative to Other Energy Sources?
Recently President Obama has set out a new energy saving plan for America; Nuclear Energy. This has not surprised energy experts who foresee a global energy crisis, and the need to use ‘alternative’ energy rather than rapidly depleting stocks of fossil fuels. But is nuclear energy really the way forward? No subject divides people the most than nuclear energy. Supporters claim it is a cheap and safe alternative to using fossil fuels, and has a proven safety record. Detractors cite Chernobyl, and prefer using cleaner energies, such as solar, water, and wind energy. Both sides can claim these energies combat global warming. Nuclear power does not depend on fossil fuels, and so helps the environment, although the energy itself is not natural, whilst solar, water and wind energy are “new” concepts which only generate a small percentage of the energy we currently use. However, even though the United States probably will develop a new generation of “safe” nuclear power stations, instead of th
