Is not being a virgin before marriage a sin?
“Sin” is a mythological concept, there is no such thing. What you should be asking instead is: Is it morally right or wrong to have sex before marriage. To which I would answer: Who are you hurting? If you are hurting noone, then there is nothing morally wrong with your actions. If you are hurting someone, then your moral position becomes more questionable, depending on why and how. In most circumstances (in civilised countries) premarital sex hurts noone, and is therefore not morally wrong. Just remember to use protection, so you don’t get pregnant or get STD’s. And no, “pulling out” and “safe periods” are in no way sufficient protection, and you CAN get pregnant the first time.
Anything that can potentially harm you, harm others, or be a direct or indirect cause of problems in your life is also considered a sin. The idea of waiting for marriage, is mainly to prevent men from using you before marriage. Some men go though women like toilet paper and it can be devastating to some women to lose their virginity to a man who doesn’t care about that. That is only one reason Jesus tried to warn us about this. There are other reasons too, for instance many young people forget that sex without protection can lead to babies, and many young people sleep around with people they would never want to marry or stick with for the rest of their lives. Children need stability, IE, parents who don’t leave. Jesus wanted to protect children form having parents like this. That is why He suggested no sex before marriage. It’s a sin, and like ALL SINS, it is FORGIVEN COMPLETELY by believing in Jesus alone for salvation 🙂 We’re all sinners, and Jesus came and died on the cross for our sins, to pay for our sins! And then Jesus rose from the dead! 😀 When you believe in Jesus alone for salvation, then you are forgiven all sins past, present, and future. The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you will be in heaven, no matter what! Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! You must be already married to commit adultery, by definition. So that doesn’t apply here. Furthermore, the Bible does not forbid sex before marriage. Fornication does not mean “premarital sex”. Fornication literally means, “sexual immorality”. Proof of this comes from the Bible itself. Matthew 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. Obviously a married woman cannot have “premarital sex” since she is married. Thus the contention that fornication is just another word for premarital sex is shown to be false.
