I work for Delta and can give you some insight as to what happened and what is left to happen. Delta acquired Northwest in an all-stock deal, meaning each NW stockholder received 1.5 shares of Delta stock and no money changed hands. The Department of Justice gave formal approval to the deal on October 29, 2008 and the deal closed (kind of like buying a house) later that afternoon. Since that date Northwest has been operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta and is called NWA, Inc. All the former assets of NW now belong to Delta and the airplanes are in the process of being repainted. The estimation is that all planes will be in Delta colors by early 2010. The overall progress is going faster than expected. For instance when the merger/acquistion was announced April 14, 2008 it was estimated that a single operating certificate wouldn’t be granted until mid-2010, but now our executive leadership is expecting the FAA to grant it later on this year.
