Is Northeastern Lacrosse a varsity program?

0

No, Northeastern University’s Lacrosse program is not a varsity sport; however it is a nationally recognized intercollegiate club team. In 2005, Lacrosse along with other club sports at Northeastern, were relocated from the guidance of Campus Recreation to the direction of Athletics Department. This means that NU Lacrosse has achieved an unofficial “Varsity Club” status. This new status has allowed the team many of the same benefits varsity teams at Northeastern receive including: • access to the varsity field for practices and games • use of the varsity weight room and staff • option of care from NU’s sports medicine staff • a registered athletic trainer present at all home games As a varsity club team, we have very high expectations of our athletes, and they have high expectations of the program. This is not typical club lacrosse. Despite the increased support each year, the current financial situation at Northeastern has not allowed the University to invest more funds into lacrosse.
