Many cost-conscious motorists choose to buy no-name gasoline at discount outlets and warehouse stores such as Costco, BJ’s, Sam’s Club and other places in order to save a few cents per gallon, but in the long run their costs may be higher. The reason: no-name motor fuels are simply not as good as brand-name fuels. Your car’s maintenance costs will be higher. The unmarked tanker-trucks that deliver gasoline to discount outlets and warehouse stores pick up the fuel at depots that serve major gasoline companies such as Exxon, Shell and Mobil, but that is where the similarity ends. The discount fuels usually do not include fuel performance additives that are the distinguishing characteristics of the major brands.
