Is nicotine a gateway drug?
The “gateway drug” is an idea from the “just say no” crowd. I know people that have used cigarettes or marijuana for years and never went beyond them. I also know people that smoke cigarettes that could never tolerate marijuana smoke and vice versa. I don’t subscribe to the whole “gateway” theory. Addictive personalities are individual and there is no one solution, other than avoiding drugs completely, that will protect a person from being addicted. I quit smoking with no problem, I got addicted to chewing gum and biking instead. Fortunately neither one is bad for you. There is no one answer for addictive behavior.
