Is neutral PH water the same as sterile water?

0

Neutral and sterile are NOT the same thing. Water that has been sterilized has no biological activity, but it may not be neutral, i.e. pH=7. It would all depend on what its pH was before it was sterilized and how it was sterilized. If done chemically, then they may be some residual chemicals that keep it sterile, but would change the pH. Even “pure” water that is exposed to air is not neutral. That’s because water exposed to air has dissolved CO2 in it, which forms a slightly acidic solution. Saline solution which is used in IV’s and washes is not neutral, although it is (hopefully) sterile. Saline solution has a pH of 7.4 (the same as blood).
