Is Nelly Too Derrty For An Arkansas College Town?
As Nelly prepares to launch his March college tour, some church leaders in Jonesboro, Arkansas, have banded together to tell him that he’s just too derrty for their town. The Reverend Adrian Rodgers from the Fullness of Joy Church, along with about 20 other pastors and members of their congregations, are fuming about Nelly’s March 12 concert at Arkansas State University’s Convocation Center (see “Nelly, St. Lunatics Take It Old-School With March College Tour”). Their beef is with Nelly’s lyrics, which the group finds demeaning toward women and unacceptable for references to drugs, sex and violence. “We first heard from a concerned parent,” Rodgers said, “and we went searching online for some lyrics, and it is not what we want our children to be involved with.
