Alternative medicine is a broad general term for all complementary healthcare. Alternative in this context signifies anything other than the western conventional (allopathic) approach. Naturopathy is not synonymous but is a type of alternative healthcare along with Acupuncture, Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Massage, Craniosacral, etc.
