Is Natalizumab for people with chronic progressive MS?
A. Currently, natalizumab has only been studied with people that had relapsing forms of MS. Q. How does natalizumab work? A. It appears that white blood cells can cause brain lesions which produce a variety of MS symptoms. Natalizumab is an antibody that reduces these types of cells from entering the brain and attacking nerves and causing damage. The complete process of how natalizumab inhibits these cells from entering the brain is not known at this time. Q. How do you take this medication? A. Natalizumab is given once every four weeks through a needle placed in a vein. This process is called intravenous (IV) infusion. Q. How do I get this medication? A. This medication is only prescribed by doctors to patients who have not benefited from other medications or who cannot tolerate other types of MS treatments.
