Hello Yankee fan – I must admit I have not observed any sign of a rush to build up the space program, or to colonize either the Moon or Mars. On the contrary, I continue to see budget cutbacks and infighting about which project deserves more attention. Some of this is proper and has been going on for decades, but today’s NASA budget is so minuscule that what you may be seeing is folks creating publicity in an effort to get favorable status at budget review time. This the unfortunate state of advanced science today, where social security, medicare, welfare, and warfare have become priorities that far exceed – by orders of magnitude – the advancement of knowledge. The colonization of these planets will take centuries – not decades. The existence of our planet is not threatened – although the conditions under which we exist may change over time.
