Is my Zebra danio pregnant?
They’re egg scatterers, so they don’t get “pregnant” so to say. But, usually when they get fat in the belly, it’s the easiest way to tell it’s a female. Of course, if it goes down a few hours after eating, then it’s just full from eating. I think there’s a way to tell by their colors as well, I don’t recall exactly what it is, but I think the males have more of a blue/silvery look to their stripes. When my female is ready to lay the eggs, she’ll sit at the bottom and breathe heavy. Then she starts darting around the tank. I have a community tank, so no fry ever develop.
