Is my russian tortoise egg fertile?
usually tortoises lay more than one egg, it can be 6 -8 eggs, if she has more eggs she might start to become unusually active patrolling perimeters or trying to climb edges, they can go off thier food a few weeks before but at the same time gaining weight, you should get her x rayed by the vet to rule out any more eggs, i would keep and eye on the female, and make sure that no more have got stuck, if she starts acting strangly then get her to a vet to see if there are more inside, egg binding can kill a tortoise, as for if they are fertile, it is difficult to tell if the eggs are fertile or not the only way is to wait you will not be sure for about 7-10 weeksif the egg is bad it will remain transparent or the yolk will settle to the bottom, that or it will explode (not a nice experience) with the tesudo species they hatch in 8 – 10 weeks depending on the temperature although shorter incubation can result in deformed hatchlings, if the female has just dropped the egg and not made a nest
