Is my computer suitable for connection to ResNet?

0

With effect from 1 January 2008 only PC’s purchased from St Leonards will be allowed access to ResNet. Students may bring their own laptops to school but ICT Services will not be able to provide Internet or network connectivity or support them if they have a problem.

The easiest computers to connect to ResNet are those running Windows XP or Vista. Older versions of Windows (such as 98, 2000, and ME) can’t be connected to ResNet. We will support Windows 7 after release, but strongly recommend students do not install pre-release versions of Windows 7 on computers connected to ResNet. Some people prefer Apple Mac computers instead of Windows systems. It is easy to connect an Apple Mac to ResNet, although our helpdesk staff have less experience with Macintosh systems so we can answer fewer questions about them. We also have basic instructions for connecting Linux systems. To connect to ResNet you need an ethernet socket. All computers for many years have been supplied with one as standard. We supply an ethernet cable free of charge with the subscription, this should fit a socket on your computer. If by any chance your computer does not have a suitable socket, ethernet adapters can be purchased from the Help Desk.
