Is Mormonism christian?
Latter-day Saints believe that their church is Christian, and that they themselves are Christians in every sense of the word. Mormons certainly embrace the moral principles of the Bible as Christians do, but is it possible for a Christian faith to deny the basic doctrines that have characterized Christianity for two thousand years and still be viewed as Christian? Would it be appropriate for a non-Mormon to claim to be a “Latter-day Saint” when he or she does not hold to the distinctives of Mormonism? If a person does not accept Joseph Smith as a prophet of God, or the Book of Mormon as Holy Scripture, he really shouldn’t claim to be a Mormon or a Latter-day Saint. The same is true for members of the LDS Church. Even though they may be very nice people, we do not believe that they can be classified as Christian.
