Is moonlighting allowed for government employees?

This was selected as Best Answer Kiran, it depends on the government entity in question. Most have a policy, hopefully in writing somewhere. I work for a state-sponsored university that does allow for “outside activities,” but only after review and approval by supervisors. Generally, I think they’re pretty flexible. Employers, especially governments, have a vested interest in making sure their employees’ outside activities don’t cause problems for their job performance and don’t create apparent conflicts of interest.
