The idea and practice of a green roof has been around for centuries, and is still uncommon in Mobile Alabama. But to be fair, mankind has come a long way from the original green roofs. A green roof is a roof that generally has vegetation literally growing (alive) on the roof. A green roof doesnt simply mean a roof with green shingles. Green roofs make for an excellent insulator that ultimately saves the homeowner dollar amounts. Also because they are a natural choice for a roofing material they are also green in terms of earth friendly. A green roof is the roof of a building that is totally covered with vegetation and soil, or growing on a medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane.
