Is Mission Viejo or Laguna Beach Safe?
The crime situation in L.A. is very much over-hyped and over-dramatized by a media which wants to sell copy. Murder and mayhem sell. The overwhelming majority of the greater L.A. area’s violent crime happens in socio-economically depressed areas like South Central, Watts, Compton, parts of East L.A. and certain parts (usually the northern section) of the San Fernando Valley. Most of L.A. and its suburbs are relatively safe. For example, I live in West Los Angeles, just east of Santa Monica, south of Brentwood and a tad south-west of Westwood, which is home to UCLA. I can go out very late at night and walk the streets with no fear at all of being confronted by violence or other crimes. Women even walk the streets at night with very little worry. Large sections of the greater L.A. area are just like this.
