Is Milton Keynes, UK like the USA?
The concept of Milton Keynew when initially built was to bring the multi-plex cinema concept to the UK where most theatres were single screen and many were older and rather run-down. The sell-through market for videocassettes in the UK was much higher in the early 1990’s than in other Western European countries precisely because the majority of theatres in the UK at that time were older, single-screen establishments such that the viewing experience in watching first run movies at the theatre was comparitively less gratifying than what it was at newer, multi-plex cinemas in the US and other Western European countries. So to this extent, yes, Milton Keynes is supposed to be modeled after the viewing experience found at more modern, multi-plex cinemas found in the USA. It has been years since I inspected Milton Keynes so I cannot attest precisely as to how it compares today. But I know the initialconcept was to mirror the USA in an effort to motivate higher theatre attendance.
